A harmonious world, ease of use, and a collective drive make Azeroth a hot destination for adventurers.
Take a sack. Stuff in all the watches you own. Wristwatches, pocket watches, kitchen watches. All of them. Then throw the bag out the window. Good. Now you can play World of WarCraft at your leisure. And they don’t keep reminding you how late it is again. You won’t feel guilty if you chase ogres through ruined cities until five o’clock in the morning. Or if you miss the bus because you still have three gorillas to slice. World of WarCraft is addictive.
Admittedly, this may also apply to other online role-playing games. But Blizzard’s hit is rounder, faster, better. We threw ourselves into the long-term test with the US sales version. Fat in war What is an ogre? A fat guy with a club. But you don’t need to know that.
World of WarCraft Winged Lion
In World of WarCraft, you’ll find your way around even if you don’t know the strategy series. Two alliances war on each other: Alliance (humans, dwarves, night elves, gnomes) and Horde (orcs, tauren, undead, trolls). At the beginning you choose a race and one of nine classes: Warrior, Paladin, Shaman, Priest, Druid, Rogue, Hunter, Warlock or Mage. You can customize the appearance of your character by choosing from a few predefined faces and hairstyles – so that only a few variations are possible per race. And at some point you’ll encounter a character that looks exactly like yours.
Nevertheless, you identify with your hero. Because you determine how he behaves. Whether he’s a nice warrior or a grumpy magician. As a soloist or in a group. Your decision. Your character. Not every race offers every class. Nature-loving orcs, for example, do not train priests. The abilities of the characters are well coordinated. Warriors are good melee fighters („tanks“ in online slang). Paladins also deal out properly, using healing spells and auras to strengthen allies. Strong shamans plant totems in the earth – statues that increase the defense value of close friends, for example. Priests heal and use „Buffs“: Enchantments that give you more health points, among other things. Druids turn into beasts, such as cats of prey. Rogues stalk enemies invisibly. Hunters tame an animal and rush it at enemies while they themselves shoot with the bow. Hexers summon a demon. Mages work enemies with fire, ice or arcane magic.

No matter which class you choose:
- All adventures can be played alone, even in higher levels. Because even classic supporters will fight solo.
- Priests, for example, do a lot of damage with offensive spells and their clubs right from the start.
- In addition, life and mana points regenerate very quickly – there’s almost no idle.
- That’s why World of WarCraft plays faster, more action-packed than the competition (Dark Age of Camelot, Everquest 2 & Co.).
You only have to join a group if you want to slaughter strong monsters or solve quests that are too difficult for your level. Since this brings a lot of experience points, group members rise faster in the level than soloists. Great idea: If you log out of a city and don’t play for a while, your character will start „rested“ and deserve more experience at short notice. So you can catch up with friends if they have continued to play diligently. The gaming experience depends on the type of server you choose. On PvP servers, you often fight against human players. Hopefully not against paladins or shamans, who are strong in close combat and can also heal themselves: too powerful for fair fights between players. On PvE servers it’s against monsters. And role-playing servers are something very special. You can discuss actions via the uncomfortable chat function. Instead of using the index card à la Dark Age of Camelot, select the chat channel via cryptic commands: „/1 Someone for the ‚Gold Tooth‘ Quest? sends your request via the general channel, for example.
Keep your hands off Blizzard’s online role-playing game! Otherwise, you’ll forget about your private life.
